Save the CBC Orchestra!

I’m not sure if you know, but CBC has recently made cutbacks. Cutbacks include changes to the CBC 2 Radio station, and the disbandment of the 70 year old CBC Radio Orchestra.

Watch a video here to learn what’s happening.

Here is a copy of an email I got with information on various protests that are happening across Canada.

This email is to inform you of “A National Day of Action to save CBC Radio 2 and the CBC Radio Orchestra” taking place on April 11 in major cities across Canada, mainly in front of CBC buildings. There are over 15,000 Canadians involved in this grassroots movement.
Please relay Friday’s nationwide rally information to your groups, students, friends, family, fellow musicians, and whomever you think is interested. Forward this email to your contacts too.
They will be short, but very energetic rallies. Bring signs and songs! Tell your local media!

Grouse Mountain Y2Play

The Grouse Mountain Y2Play pass has just gone on sale.  For those of you who are not familiar with this pass, it is a seasons pass for the 2008-2009 season, but you can start using it from the time you buy it for the rest of the 2007-2008 season.  It is also at an extremely reasonable price, at approximately $300, as apposed to the full price for a regular seasons pass at approximately $800.

Grouse may not be the best of the local mountains, but it is accessible, and for this price, it’s a good deal.  At $47 for a days pass, you have to go up 7 times over the next year and a bit to make it worth your money. Currently there is still about 500cm of snow up there, so lots of boarding and skiing left in this season!!

Check it out on the Grouse Mountain Website.

'The end of an era' at UBC

It’s something that I didn’t notice straight away, and probably because I don’t use them. But there are some new vending machines at UBC. For the past 12 years the only vending machines on the UBC Campus have been owned by Coca-Cola. And now that their contract is up, a number of Pepsi vending machines have arrived.

The deal with Coca-Cola, inked in 1995, was the first of its kind in Canada, and guaranteed $8.5 million to the university over 10 years in exchange for exclusivity. In 2005, the exclusive contract was extended another Continue reading

Getting to know John Chow

Along with many others, I decided to put my name in the draw for a Flipping Rich T-Shirt, and I won!!

I got an email from John asking for my address, and when he found out that I was in the same city as him, he invited me out to the weekly Dot Com Pho so that he could hand the shirt to me in person. Of course I accepted the invitation and joined them.

Pho Lan was quite busy today, and we had to wait a while before we got a table, but when we did get a table, the food was good.  Before we ordered, however, I played a bit of musical chairs with John, trying to find the best seating arrangement to keep Sally happy.  Sally, who had been having a rough morning from random shouts of “Sally Chow Dot Com!!” from Paul of www.pualmudhar.com, was happy with our seating arrangement, and settled down to chew on the table, which apparently was quite tasty!!

Well, I got my FlippingRich.com T-Shirt, (which I will take a picture of when I get a chance) and got to meet some bloggers face to face.

I learned a lot this afternoon, from hearing John, Greg, and Paul chatting, and hope I can continue to learn and put some of it to use so that I can make money online.   <–just had to throw that one in there for John!!

Storm the Wall and Sunny Weather

If you live in Vancouver, you know that yesterday, and today, where sunny spring days. Sunny weather like this is a huge pickup for me, because I love the summer.

When I arrived at school today, there was live DJ playing music and lots of students about. I go to UBC, and this week is the week of Storm the Wall. They set up the walls just outside the SUB, and they had music playing. What more can you ask for, other than people, music, and sunshine!!!

WHAT IS “STORM THE WALL”?

Storm the Wall is a 5-person team relay or individual event. Including a 225 yard swim, a 450 metre sprint, a 2.8km cycle, and a 1km run, followed by “storming” a 12’ wall.

Swim: 225 yards

Sprint 450 meters

Bike: 2.8 km

Run: 1km

Wall: All 5 team members climb a 12-foot wall

This event is probably one of UBC’s most well known Rec Centre event.
