I mentioned a few days ago, that I had an increased spam. I never used to have this problem, and after upgrading my site, I was getting 20-30 spam comments a day. Damien suggested reCAPTCHA, which is a program that can tell whether its user is a human or a computer by using captcha images. I installed it, and it worked. However, I didn’t really like it. It didn’t integrate into my site very well, was below all the comment forms, and was therefore easy to miss. And, when you did miss it, or get the words wrong, it deleted your comment that you had just written.

I began to look for other means for dealing with the comment spam. And found that I had really just had a big blond moment. Why I never got spam before was simply because I was running Akismet Spam. A free spam filter that comes standard with Wordpress. I had simply forgotten to activate the plugin when I had upgraded my site a few weeks ago.

So I am now happily Spam Free, with not pesky Captcha things for the comments page :D
